It has been my experience that Arizona’s Spanish education system is critically lacking. I have studied the language for 8 years, but have only have 2 or 3 good teachers and fewer stimulating programs. I think it reaches deeper than just a poorly designed system, however. I think that in an effort to become more “American” many hispanic immigrants have Arizona is so close to Mexico; it used to BE a part of Mexico. I consider Spanish to be part of the regional heritage, so to see it being so undervalued just seems like a waste of culture and resources.
