You are a 27-year old Pakistani woman. You have a career in journalism, you drive your own car. You are still dependent on your family when it comes to cooking food, laundry and making your bed. You have never travelled abroad and one day you find yourself standing at DC airport.
This is what happened to me and here is what followed.
Fell in love with America…
and also fell in love with Americans. it all happened at Thanksgiving and the turkey wasn’t dry.
Travelled to some great cities like San Francisco and realized that there is more to America than Hollywood.
Found myself ‘Grandparents’ and they are pretty cool.
Indulged in public speaking, a lot, tried to break stereotypes and build some bridges.
Made friends for life.
Hiked in and out of Grand Canyon.
Drove my first automatic car, first time ever on the left side with no road sense. Credit goes to my navigator who also happens to be my closest friend – Derya Kaya.
Had my first ever official photo session.
Met US Congressman who discussed issue of immigration.
From day 1, I was your official photographer-way before becoming close friends! I completely forgot about that picture 🙂
