After listening to Jody Brannon and Leonard Downie, Jr. talk about News21 and their amazing work I was really encouraged to think that journalism is not dying like some people are saying.
In fact, News21 is an example of how journalism is evolving and adapting into the new era that we are entering. One point that Len Downie, Jr. mentioned that particularly interested me was the concept that journalism schools should be like medicine schools in the way that medical students are often praticioners in an university hospital. In the same way a journalism student should be practicing real journalism while still in school and therefore journalism colleges should be producing real journalism for the media markets. The News21 initiative and Cronkite News Service are examples of how we can produce real quality journalism while still in school.
