Last night I went to the Grand Avenue Festival in Phoenix to cover an event for State Press Magazine. In this big commuter town it’s new to see the community coming together. Local artists came together to put on a show highlighting Phoenix’s small fashion industry. During the event, the opening speaker talked about how they were trying to build up Grand Avenue as a community and make it successful. It’s such an interesting idea because I think community relates a lot to success. People who feel integrated into their workplace, neighborhood or school won’t transfer. Besides my elementary school which was exceptional at building community, I don’t think I’ve ever really felt part of a community in Phoenix. Bringing that structure to a company is so essential and I think so overlooked in the US where people’s personal lives are very distant. How are communities structured in your home countries?
